Activity Introduction

During the design activity, the teacher found that the children were interested in the Chinese culture of the teahouse. After discussion with the children, the teacher decided to conduct a study on “Chinese Food Culture – The Great Teahouse” to explore the materials used and how to make dim sum, as well as the people, things, and objects in the teahouse. ……. Finally, the children decorated the school lobby as a teahouse with Chinese tableware, tea utensils, models of dim sum, dim sum paper, dim sum trolleys, and so on. According to their own preferences, the children discussed with their peers the roles they would like to play, such as manager, waiter, dim sum master, cashier and customer, etc. They played the game of going to a simulated teahouse, and imagined themselves in a teahouse, drinking tea and tasting the dim sum delicacies. Throughout the activity, the children experienced the Chinese tea-drinking culture, explored how dim sum is made, learned about different kinds of dim sum food, characters in a teahouse, Chinese tableware, table manners when drinking tea, and learned how to use polite language to entertain the guests, thus deepening their understanding of the Chinese culinary culture.
